The Director of Community Education & Training oversees PPLA’s Education and Training programs and initiatives.  The Director has excellent
management, health education and policy experience to supervise staff and manage the implementation of all facets of education and training provided to students, parents, and key partners in priority areas of Los Angeles County.  Strengthen and cultivate key
partnerships with school districts, community partners, and education leaders.  Strong familiarity with Title X, grants/foundation processes.  Develop and implement an annual operational plan and budget, and ensure that approved goals and objectives are met.

Qualified candidates must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree with an education, sex education, or health education focus. Master’s Degree strongly preferred

·
At least five (5) years of successful program management experience, including budget development and monitoring,
and staff management

·
Organizational and program management experience

·
Experience in training and educating adolescents and adults

·
Experience in curriculum development and writing

·
Familiarity with research and evaluation

·
Excellent communication including presentation skills and interpersonal skills

·
Committed to adolescent health education. Warm, friendly, and flexible attitude towards adolescents

·
Understanding of youth empowerment, gender equity, and learner-centered approaches preferable

·
Ability and willingness to travel to and visit centers, agency and community meetings

·
Availability to work some evenings and weekends

·
Ability to work as part of a team.  Responsive to new ideas and situations.  Able to adapt to change and a
fast-paced work environment

About the position:

·
Day-to-day oversight of the Community Education Department

·
Overall Education and Training program management and leadership, including responsibility for the development
and implementation of the annual operational plan and budget

·
Ensure that program goals and objectives are met by creating and monitoring a program timeline and reaching
quarterly goals and objectives

·
Ensureprogram budget is executed according to PPLA’s policies, norms, and guidelines

·
Oversight of the planning, implementation, and evaluation of program strategies and initiatives, and serving
as trainer, presenter, and lecturer as needed

·
Supervision and mentoring of program staff, consultants, interns, and volunteers responsible for program activities

·
Work closely with the Vice President to clear program direction and monitor program progress

·
Work in collaboration with other PPLA departments

·
Represent PPLA by developing and maintaining relationships with schools, teachers, parents, and community-based
organizations and other stakeholders associated with PPLA and its programs

·
Become fully knowledgeable about PPLA’s standards for program content and PPLA’s services

·
Participate in the PPLA LEADS and Agency strategic planning initiatives

·
Keep department and agency leadership informed of program accomplishments through regular reports and communications

·
Identify need for and develop new/revised departmental policies and procedures for staff, interns, and volunteers

·
Maintain necessary knowledge and skills to provide leadership to program; staying current on recent studies
on sexuality, sexual health and reproductive rights education, family communication, educational approaches to children, teens, and parents, sexuality and developmental disabilities, and LGBT and transgender adolescents and communities
