Behaviors & Substance Use among HIV+ and HIV-
Pregnant and Postpartum Mothers in Cape Town, South Africa

Dr. Dvora Joseph Davey, PhD Epidemiology, will present initial findings from her post-doctoral research in Cape
Town, South Africa. She is working in collaboration with University of Cape Town, Centre for Infectious Disease Epidemiology and Research, on a cross-sectional study of sex behavior and substance use and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) awareness among HIV-infected
and uninfected pregnant and breastfeeding women.  She will present factors associated with risky sex, substance use, and other risk behaviors among this population, as well as interesting socio-cultural insights from in-depth interviews. Finally, she will
discuss her next steps in developing NIH proposals for larger studies in the same population.
