Opportunity to attend or volunteer at Birthing Justice Forum before/on Sept 27th

We are looking for students to help us with our BIRTHING JUSTICE FORUM on Sept. 27th at the California Endowment Center. We will be showing the film “No Mas Bebes”
about the forced sterilization of Chicana women in the 1970s at LA County Hospital. We will have a panel and discussion and then some interactive exercises, to stimulate activism around issues of birthing justice/human rights in childbirth here in Los Angeles.
We will also be holding an awards ceremony recognizing the local people who are making a difference here in LA. We may also have a 1-woman play about childbirth.

The students can get valuable experience helping us with outreach to promote the event, logistical support at the event, and help preparing CEU packets (this includes lit review, creating learner objectives,
evaluations, etc). Also, we could use some data analysis after the event taken from our evaluations. We also have to prepare for the panel with questions, and also we have to create an interactive exercise based on the Socioecological Model to do with the
attendees, and will need table monitors at the event, people to help with registration, at the awards ceremony, etc.

We are looking for volunteer assistance both before and during the event itself on Sept 27th. Students might be able to get credit hours.

For those who wish to attend (but not volunteer), the fee is $175 per student (there is a discount if 4 register together) and includes CEUs and food at the Awards Ceremony.

This would be a good opportunity for any student interested in perinatal health inequities and disparities, reproductive health, human rights in health care, nursing, medicine, women’s health, maternal
and child health. We could use approximately 4 students to volunteer/intern.
