Purnima Mane

President & CEO
Pathfinder International

Pathfinder International is a non-profit working to ensure people everywhere have the rights and opportunities to live healthy sexual and reproductive lives.

Prior to becoming Pathfinder’s president and CEO, Purnima Mane spent much of her career in the United Nations, with roles including Deputy Executive Director of the UN Population Fund and several leadership positions at UNAIDS and The Global Fund to Fight AIDS,
Tuberculosis and Malaria.

At Pathfinder, Mane and her staff face challenges such as sensitivities around sexual and reproductive health, changing donor priorities, precarious funding and the difficult socio-cultural and political contexts in which the organization works. Through it
all, she maintains that idealism and pragmatism need to—and do—co-exist. Her talk will give examples of how Pathfinder navigates these tensions when the two notions collide and the challenges that remain.
