Foster Youth Reproductive Health Conference on 12/18 at East LA College

Please save the date for the first annual conference hosted by the LA Reproductive Health Equity Project for Foster Youth (LA RHEP): What’s sex got to do with it? Healthy Sexual Development to Improve Outcomes for Youth in Foster Care

Sexual & reproductive health intersects in very complex ways across the life of young people in the foster care system, who are disproportionately impacted by inequitable reproductive health outcomes and experiences, including high rates of unintended pregnancy and STI’s, obstruction of access to care, lack of access to sexual health education, and shame-based stereotypes about their reproductive realities.

This conference seeks to bring together a diverse set of stakeholders who want to learn what it will take to support the voice, choice, and agency of youth in foster care to make their own informed decisions about their bodies and lives as a key strategy to supporting their educational, employment, housing, and overall wellness goals.

We invite:

  • Youth currently or formerly in foster care
  • Social workers
  • Caregivers
  • Residential/housing and homeless service providers
  • Health care providers
  • ITSP staff
  • WIOA and other workforce development providers
  • Secondary and postsecondary education providers and support staff
  • Attorneys and CASA
  • LGBTQ+, reproductive justice, gender/racial justice, CSEC, and anti-violence organizations and movement makers
  • Public agency administrators and staff
  • Legislators
  • Funders

Conference registration opens by November 13, 2018. Please mark your calendars and spread the attached flyer to your networks. We look forward to seeing you on December 18th!
