Job Opening: OPEN Research Assistant (in Ohio)

The Ohio Policy Evaluation Network (OPEN) conducts rigorous, impactful, and forward thinking social-science research on the reproductive health of Ohioans. Our multiple interdisciplinary research projects assess reproductive health outcomes, equity, access, cost, and autonomy in the context of federal and state laws and policies. The team is comprised of faculty, staff and students from multiple universities and institutions across the state. OPEN seeks to hire a Research Assistant who will work from the Ohio State University main campus in Columbus. This is a temporary, full-time position expected to last for one year.

Position Expectations

Report to the OPEN principal investigators and research project leaders at Ohio State University and University of Cincinnati to conduct data extraction from medical records in health clinics

Compile and enter data into REDCap from multiple data sources

Travel for data collection in cities throughout the state, potentially including extended stays in the cities (percent travel time estimated to be 75%; 25% based in Columbus office)

Coordinate closely with clinic staff to resolve issues that arise during the data collection process

Assure confidentiality of medical records and study documents


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor degree PLUS related experience in clinical or human subjects’ research OR  Masters degree in public health, sociology, social work, bioinformatics, bioscience, or related

Experience interacting with multiple sites or projects at once

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Flexible, adaptable

Extremely strong attention to detail


Desire to advance public health knowledge in Ohio

Basic knowledge of reproductive health landscape in Ohio or similar states

Must have valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to conduct job duties. Frequent travel across the state of Ohio will be required for this position.

12 months commitment


Preferred qualification

Experience with REDCap or other research databases.

Experience in public health or reproductive health fields beneficial but not required.
