Join a Rally in Sacramento for Reproductive Justice! Sept 3 at 11 AM

Dear all,

Please join with RHIG to participate in justCARE’s rally next month at the state Capitol in support of SB 24, which will expand abortion access for college students across California.

TRUST STUDENTS: Provide. Expand. Demand.

Tuesday, September 3 at 11 a.m.
West Steps of the California State Capitol
Sacramento, CA

The campaign needs your support at the capitol to help urge legislators to pass SB 24 (see more information about SB24 below). Help advocate for reproductive equity and #AbortionCareOnCampus, on September 3rd along with other collegiate feminist leaders in Sacramento. Transportation costs for student activists will be subsidized thanks to the JustCARE Campaign.  Sign up here to apply for a subsidy:

Students and activists are coming together to urge the Legislature to pass and the Governor to sign Senate Bill 24, which would make abortion care available on public university campuses, and mobilize for reproductive equity for students—from abortion care to birth control access to parenting support.

What is Senate Bill 24?  It states:

< ![if !supportLists]>·        < ![endif]>The abortion pill is safe, effective care that can—and should—be offered at every CA university health center.

< ![if !supportLists]>o   < ![endif]>Medication abortion is a safe, effective method to end a pregnancy and is as clinically simple to provide as some of the other care already offered at university health centers.

< ![if !supportLists]>o   < ![endif]>In a groundbreaking move, a consortium of funders has stepped forward to cover the costs to bring medication abortion to public university student health centers in California.

< ![if !supportLists]>·       < ![endif]>Students already seek abortion care but are currently forced to go off campus, which creates unnecessary barriers.

< ![if !supportLists]>o   < ![endif]>Once a student has decided to end a pregnancy, they shouldn’t be forced to go off campus to see a provider they don’t know—when the abortion pill can easily be provided on campus.

< ![if !supportLists]>o   < ![endif]>Leaving campus to get health care can mean taking time away from class, an internship, family time, or your job.

< ![if !supportLists]>o   < ![endif]>Students, including those who are already parents, face many barriers to accessing the full range of sexual and reproductive health services, and these barriers disproportionately harm students of color, low-income students, and first-generation college students.

< ![if !supportLists]>·       < ![endif]>Senate Bill 24 ensures CA university students have access to the reproductive health services they need, including the abortion pill.

< ![if !supportLists]>o   < ![endif]>At a time when abortion rights are threatened nationally, California can and must be a leader—and support students’ access to abortion care on campus.

< ![if !supportLists]>o   < ![endif]>This policy enjoys widespread support among students and the public. Sixty percent of Californians – including 7 in 10 women – support making the abortion pill available on campus.

< ![if !supportLists]>o   < ![endif]>Offering abortion care on campus helps ensure these services are available to all students who might need them, wherever they live, go to school, or however much money they make.

You’re not going to want to miss this rally! It will feature storytelling, music, and speakers calling for reproductive equity on all campuses, as well as a special appearance by SB 24 author Senator Connie M. Leyva, who has been a legislative champion for student abortion access.

Let’s show our lawmakers how much California supports reproductive equity for students.  For everyone attending:  please RSVP now  for the event so justCARE can know that you will be urging lawmakers to TRUST STUDENTS and pass Senate Bill 24.
