After Roe fell, Kristy Guevara-Flanagan co-founded the Abortion Clinic Film Collective

After Roe fell, Bixby Faculty Affiliate, Kristy Guevara-Flanagan co-founded the Abortion Clinic Film Collective, collaborating with filmmakers to document the impact of the decision from different states’ perspectives.

The films feature the experiences of medical doctors and clinic staff, mothers and daughters, and criminal defense attorneys and advocates, particularly in areas most affected by abortion restrictions. Kristy directed one of the films, As Long as We Can, which captures a day in the life of an Arizona reproductive health clinic navigating the turbulent aftermath of the 2022 Dobbs decision.

A Professor of Documentary and Vice Chair/Head of Undergraduate Studies and the MFA Documentary program at UCLA’s School of Theatre, Film and Television, Kristy is an award-winning documentary filmmaker whose work explores gender, power, and cultural mythologies.

Her films have screened at Tribeca, SXSW, Sundance, and Hot Docs, and aired on Starz, BBC, and PBS. Her acclaimed documentaries include Wonder Women! The Untold Story of American Superheroines (2013), What Happened to Her (2016), Águilas (2021), and Body Parts (2022), which examines the hidden labor behind sex scenes in Hollywood.

You can watch her films through Women Make Movies, Kanopy, Apple TV, and Starz. You can also organize screenings in your communities or with partner organizations. Learn more at Abortion Clinic Film Collective.
