Director’s Welcome
Where Passion Meets Purpose
Our interdisciplinary community draws strength from UCLA’s unique environment, where public health, medicine, law, policy, life sciences, and the social sciences intersect to tackle complex challenges together. As a public institution, our students, staff and faculty reflect the diversity of the people we serve—an inherent strength that shapes our understanding of access, justice, and the right to education and self-determination.
Our research and partnerships shine light on issues too often overlooked or stigmatized, amplifying voices that have been excluded from impactful research, and challenge how we collect and share knowledge about human experiences. Our work spans global and domestic contexts—because whether in Los Angeles or Lusaka, interdisciplinary approaches are needed to respond to the urgent and evolving questions shaping sexual and reproductive health.
As Director, my vision is to continue building a center that meaningfully connects people, ideas, and disciplines to drive impact and improve sexual and reproductive health. Bixby is more than an academic hub—it’s a community of thinkers and doers committed to rigorous, inclusive, and impactful work. We honor the legacy of those who have come through our doors and continue to support and inspire the next generation of leaders in sexual and reproductive health.
I look forward to seeing how your unique perspective contributes to our shared mission.
— Dr. Jessica Gipson
