Internship Year:

I worked on two separate projects within the Reproductive Health Program and Poverty, Gender and Youth Program. Most of my time was spent on the project entitled, Encouraging the Abandonment of Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) among the Somali of Kenya. For this project, I analyzed baseline and endline data. I also assisted in analyzing focus group discussions and in-depth interviews from community members in order to better understand community perceptions of the practice and what would best lead to its abandonment. I also visited the AIC Girls Rescue Center that was located in Kijardo. I assisted in data entry of 500 adolescent girls’ surveys. After completion of the surveys, I attended a meeting in which adolescent girls of the Kibera slums were learning about financial responsibility.
