Internship Year:

My role as an intern was to conduct a reproductive health-focused needs assessment for adolescents in the local community, identify the reproductive health services available to adolescents at a local health clinic, and propose and implement steps to improve existing services. I did an extensive literature review, conducted eight key informant interviews and two focus groups, and did a survey of clinic visitors. Based on the information uncovered in my needs assessment, I proposed a set of strategies to improve reproductive health services for adolescents. In addition, I implemented activities to increase community awareness of the services of teens and initiate peer education efforts. First, I created and placed throughout the clinic new teen-friendly informational material. Second, I revitalized the clinic’s youth development group by holding more meetings, introducing reproductive health topics into the curriculum and helping the teens organize a youth health fair.
