Internship Year:

During my ten-week internship in Phnom Penh I worked closely with the Preventing Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT) unit in the National Pediatric Hospital (NPH) of Phnom Penh on a pediatric HIV project. The main purpose of my project was to come up with a research proposal using an existing dataset with data extracted from clinical records. I spent the first part of my internship doing extensive literature reviews on various PMTCT topics, deciding to research the difference in growth of HIV infected infants compared to infants that are not infected with HIV. I also cleaned the existing data and worked with a clinician to extract additional data from the clinical records. During the second part of my internship I analyzed the data and compiled a report of my findings for the National Pediatric Hospital.
