Dr. Patrick Heuveline's research interests center on how childhood family structures affect child wellbeing and the transition to adulthood. He has conducted comparative analyses of single parenting and cohabitation in Western nations and leads a project in Cambodia, started in 2000, examining family changes since the Khmer Rouge era. His ongoing research extends to the analysis of additional long-term consequences of the “Khmer-Rouge” regime, one of the most oppressive regimes in the second half of the 20th century. Methodologically, Dr. Heuveline develops models of population dynamics to study demographic phenomena, including the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Eastern Africa and the death toll from the Khmer Rouge regime.
