Assistant Professor Rebecca Delafield’s work primarily focuses on understanding and improving health outcomes and health care experiences of Pasifika people. Her research examines the socio-cultural, psychosocial, medical, and biological factors that shape health care quality and outcomes, with a particular attention to pregnancy and the perinatal period. Using both quantitative and qualitative methods, Dr. Delafield identifies factors that community members, leaders, and academic researchers can address to advance the health and well-being of birthing-people and families. She currently serves as Principal Investigator on a research study examining maternity care experiences among Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander in the U.S., using a culturally adapted measure of patient–provider communication and relationship.
